Known as the birthplace of former President Richard Nixon, Yorba Linda is an appealing Orange County city that is often ranked as one of the best places to live in the United States. Yorba Linda history

The modern history of Yorba Linda begins in the 1830s when the Mexican government granted the land to Bernardo Yorba. He was a farmer with 20 children, and eventually one of his heirs, Porfirio Yorba, sold the land in 1907. In 1909 the Janss Investment Co. of Los Angeles completed plans for the area’s development, though the town was much smaller than it is today. Yorba Linda was created as a family community, and owners were prohibited from selling alcohol on their properties. This law remained intact until Prohibition was repealed in 1933. Residents voted to incorporate Yorba Linda in 1967, and the population has steadily increased since then. One of the earliest families to live in Yorba Linda were the Nixons, making the city the birthplace of America’s 37th president, Richard Nixon. The community is now home to the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum.

Easily the most popular attraction in Yorba Linda is the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum. It’s one of 15 Presidential Libraries in the United States administered by the National Archives. Their massive collection includes 22 unique spaces that allow visitors to experience the life and times of Richard Nixon. In addition, the Yorba Linda Historical Society operates the Susanna Bixby Bryant Museum which contains 2,500 square feet of vintage furnishings dating back more than 100 years.

Outdoor recreation is a big part of life in Yorba Linda. There are more than 100 miles of multi-use trails for you to explore. The city is also home to some of the most beautiful parks in Orange County. These include Arroyo Park, Box Canyon Park, Brush Canyon Park, Eastside Community Park, and many more. The Black Gold Golf Club is a favorite of Orange County golfers. Their Arthur Hill-designed course incorporates rolling hills, incredible vistas, and several water features including a stunning waterfall at the 18th green.

Kids and teens will enjoy the Yorba Linda Spotlight Theater. This non-profit was created to give children in Yorba Linda the opportunity to learn about what happens both on- and off-stage in a live theater. They offer a wide range of classes, workshops, private lessons, and large-scale productions.

Most of the students in Yorba Linda are served by the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District. However, a small portion of students in the city is served by the Orange Unified School District. Schools in Yorba Linda are very highly rated with several earning A+ ratings on Niche. There are several excellent private schools in Yorba Linda as well. These include St. Francis of Assisi School, Heritage Oak Private School, and Lutheran High School of Orange County. Nearby universities include California State University Fullerton and the University of California Irvine.
