Linda Isle Amenities
Incorporated into the city in 1954, Linda Isle was the last to be incorporated into the city of Newport Beach. It was at the time when Linda Isle was incorporated that the entire city and its islands began to change from resort to a residential community. Due to its long history, many of the homes in Linda Isle date back to the 1960s with most being three to five-bedroom homes offering 2,770 to 8,088 square feet of living space.
Residents of Linda Isle enjoy access to a number of amenities. Among these are a private boat dock that can accommodate large yachts that are 70 feet long or more. The Fashion Island shopping center is also a short drive away via the 73 freeway, while all of the retail centers, restaurants and other amenities of Newport Beach are located conveniently near to the community. Of course, the moderate year-round weather coupled with having easy access to some of the most beautiful beaches in the country are natural amenities that cannot be overlooked.
The Formation of Newport Bay
Linda Isle is part of the Lower Bay of Newport Beach. The Lower Bay, which is also referred to as simply Newport Bay, was formed along the coast below the Upper Newport Bay. Formed by sand brought by ocean currents from the Santa Ana River and other rivers to the north, the process ultimately created the offshore beach that is known today as the Balboa Peninsula. An estuary of the Santa Ana River was later dredged in the late 19th century to form Newport Harbor, which remains the harbor of Newport Beach to this day.
Before settlers reached the coasts of California, the area that is now Newport was most occupied by Native Americans. A such, Native American shells and relics can still be found scattered throughout the area today. Settlement by Anglo-Americans didn?t really begin until 1870, at which time a 105-ton steamer named The Vaquero steered through the lower and upper bay to unload its cargo. Excited to find a new port in the area, the port was named simply Newport. When the Pacific Electric Railway established a southern terminus in Newport that connected the beach with downtown Los Angeles in 1905, the scattered settlements within the area were incorporated into the City of Newport Beach. This took place in 1906, at which time the population was just 206 people.
Today, Newport beach boasts a population of more than 85,000 people. The affluent city is also has some of the most expensive real estate in the country. According to a 2010 report, more than a quarter of households in the city have an income of more than $200,000. In addition, that same report found that the median value for a home in the city exceeds $1 million.
