Chandler is located in Maricopa County in Arizona and has a population of approximately 261,000. It’s a suburb of Phoenix and is bordered by Tempe to the north and west, Mesa to the north, Gilbert to the east, the Gila River Indian Community to the south, and Phoenix to the west. Computer-chip company Intel has a large presence in Chandler, and tech firms employ about one-quarter of the city’s population. One of the most notable things about Chandler is its annual Ostrich Festival, paying homage to the city’s history of being the location of many ostrich farms. In 2016 Chandler was named a Playful City USA for its commitment to parks and recreation — the tenth year in a row it received the honor. Chandler history

Chandler’s history dates back to 1891 when veterinarian Dr. Alexander John Chandler settled in the area. Over the next decade, Dr. Chandler acquired 18,000 acres of land and drew up plans for a town. The first townsite office officially opened on May 16, 1912. Chandler High School was opened in 1914 and the city incorporated in 1920. Dr. Chandler was the town’s first mayor. The population experienced a surge in 1941 with the founding of Williams Air Force Base and by 1980 there were 30,000 residents. Chandler is now one of the fastest-growing municipalities in the United States and in 2010 was named an All-America City.

Most students in Chandler are served by the Chandler Unified School District. There are several schools in Chandler with A+ ratings on Niche including BASIS Chandler, Great Hearts Academies – Chandler Prep, Arizona College Prep Erie Campus, BASIS Chandler Primary – North Campus, and Gilbert Classical Academy High School. Many of these schools rank in the top 20 for public schools in Arizona. Post-secondary schools in Chandler include Chandler-Gilbert Community College, Western International University, and International Baptist College. Arizona State University is located 14 miles away in downtown Tempe.
