Trabuco Canyon?s name dates back to 1769 when Gaspar de Portola headed an expedition into the area. One night they camped on the western edge of a large plateau, which was bordered to the east by a creek. To commemorate the loss, they named the creek Trabuco, and the entire area has gone by that name ever since.
