Placentia history

The land that is currently Placentia was granted to Juan Pacifico Ontiveros in 1837 as part of the Rancho San Juan Cajón de Santa Ana land grant. Daniel Kramer then purchased 3,900 acres in 1865. Soon after, more American settlers arrived and began developing the community. In 1910 the Santa Fe Railroad re-routed their track through the area. A station house was built, packing housings were constructed for the growing citrus industry, and the main streets of the town were laid out. The city was incorporated in 1926 and in the 1960s began experiencing a population boom. Placentia remains a fast-growing community today.

Placentia holds onto its rich history and there are many places in the city to experience it. The George Key Ranch Historic Park includes a historic citrus ranch, Victorian-era home, museum, and garden. The A.S. Bradford House, located in the Placentia-Santa Fe District, is a historic house museum that dates back to 1902 that is often open for public tours.

The city holds several festivals and events throughout the year for residents to enjoy. The Placentia Fresh Farmers’ Market is open every Tuesday evening from 4 – 8 pm at the Placentia Town Center. Here you can pick up fresh produce and homemade goods from approximately 30 vendors. The city also hosts a holiday tree lighting event every year. Residents can also join the Placentia Community Chorus which rehearses and performs a variety of choral music throughout the year.

There are three high schools, three public middle schools, and numerous elementary schools throughout the city.
