Situato a Corona del Mar, vicino all'ingresso del porto di Newport, il Balboa Yacht Club ha una storia che risale al 1992. Fin dalla sua fondazione, il Balboa Yacht Club ha continuato a servire la zona in molti modi.

Strutture del Balboa Yacht Club

Originariamente noto come Southland Sailing Club, il Balboa Yacht Club è stato ribattezzato con il suo nome attuale subito dopo la sua fondazione. La struttura dispone di una sala da pranzo principale con posti a sedere interni ed esterni, nonché di un padiglione attrezzato con barbecue e snack bar. Oltre a fornire lattine di ormeggio, la struttura offre bot scivoloni bagnati e asciutti per i membri e per gli ospiti per una tariffa mensile. Mentre gli scivoli bagnati possono ospitare barche fino a 55 piedi di lunghezza, gli scivoli a secco utilizzano una gru da tre tonnellate in grado di ospitare barche più piccole fino a 25 piedi di lunghezza. Le strutture, aperte cinque giorni alla settimana, offrono anche varo e rimessaggio gommoni, personale di banchina a tempo pieno e barca da terra.

Strutture aggiuntive

Oltre alle strutture principali a Corona del Mar, il Balboa Yacht Club ha una stazione esterna sull'isola Catalina a Whites Cove a ovest di Avalon. C'è anche una struttura satellitare a Whites Landing sull'isola di Santa Catalina. Questa posizione satellite offre ai membri un piccolo ancoraggio e una spiaggia dove possono rimanere mentre navigano sull'isola. Alcune tende sono disponibili anche per quelle imbarcazioni che non sono adatte per dormire, mentre una grande griglia comune è disponibile in un'area illuminata per la cucina serale. Sono inoltre disponibili kayak e un campo da pallavolo.

Flotte e skipper del Balboa Yacht Club

The Balboa Yacht Club is home to several fleets, many of which race on a regular basis. While it is home to the Thursday night ?Beer Can Races,? most of the larger boat race outside of Newport Harbor in the Pacific Ocean. Meanwhile, the Beer Can Races offer a more relaxed environment than major offshore races. Fleets found at Balboa Yacht Club include FJs, Harbor 20s, Naples Sabot, Santana 20?s and an adult Sabot fleet.

Balboa?s skippers also offer a rich history, with skippers Bob White and Bob Davis winning the Snipe world championships in 1945 and 1946 respectively. Jack Franco and Renee Vesterby won the North Americans in 1990, while David Ullman won the 470 World Championships in 1977, 1978 and 1980 as well as the Clifford Day Mallory Cup I 1980 and the Melges 24 World Championships in 2007.

Programma di vela per ragazzi

The Balboa Yacht Club is also home to a number of junior sailing programs, with the club employing a full-time junior program director along with coaches, maintenance and administrative staff for the program. Facilities for the program include a junior clubhouse, Sabot and Laser storage spaces, a tool room, a launching ramp and sail and boat wash areas. Members also have access to the junior charter fleet, which includes Lasers, Sabots, C420?s and CFJ?s. The fleet also includes Whaler chase boats, the BYC Jr. race committee boat, multi-boat trailers and inflatables.
