Residents of the gated Bayshores community also enjoy a high level of security with 24-hour guard service.

Thanks to its location in Newport Harbor, Bayshores also provides its residents with ample opportunity to enjoy a variety of water-based sports and activities. Popular activities in the area include canoeing, kayaking, rowing, sailing, fishing and paddleboarding. It is also a popular location for whale watching, sports fishing and harbor tours, with many commercial maritime companies operating out of the area.

Enjoying Newport Harbor

A semi-artificial harbor, Newport Harbor was formed in the early 1900s by dredging the Newport Bay estuary. Since that time, several artificial islands have also been built, all of which are now covered with private homes. Among these islands are Balboa Island, Bay Island, Collins Island, Harbor Island, Lido Isle, Linda Isle, Little Balboa Island and Newport Island.

In the early days, Newport Harbor was a significant supporter of maritime industries such as commercial fishing, boatbuilding and shipbuilding. Today, the area is primarily used for recreation with its shores occupied primarily by private homes and private docks. In fact, Newport Harbor is one of the largest recreational boat harbors on the west cost of the United States, with approximately 9,000 boats there.

Sometimes referred to as Lower Newport Bay, Newport Harbor is located to the south of the Pacific Coast Highway bridge that divides Newport Bay. The area to the north of the bridge is referred to as Upper Newport Bay. While the bridge is too low for most sailboats and for very large boats to pass under, the north end of the Newport Harbor channels around Lido Island and offers a number of small business centers. The north east side of the channel is home to the Lido Marina Village, which provides the local port to many Newport party boats as well as local restaurants and small merchants.

Exploring Newport Beach

The seaside city of Newport Beach, in which Bayshores is located, is situated in Orange County, California. With a population of 85,287 according to the 2010 census, the city’s median family income and property values are consistently placed high in national rankings. In 2010, it was reported that more than a quarter of the households have incomes greater than $200,000 and that the median home value was more than $1 million.

With its mid-latitude semi-arid climate, Newport Beach also offers a pleasant climate with weak temperature variation when compared to inland cities that are located even just a few miles from the ocean. This is largely due to the proximity of the Pacific Ocean, which moderates the climate by warming winter temperatures and cooling summer temperatures.
