Cleaning Your Gadgets for a Healthy 2022

When was the last time you cleaned your smartphone? Or how about your tablet, laptop, gaming console, or earphones? While we often think of cleaning our homes once the new year begins, we often forget about our gadgets. But our electronic devices can get grimy and harbor all sorts of germs. So it’s important to regularly clean them, too. If you’re not sure how to go about cleaning your gadgets, then here’s what you need to know.

Smartphones and tablets

In pre-Covid times, manufacturers generally suggested cleaning smartphones and tablets with distilled water only. But since many of us now want to disinfect them as well, it is advised to use disinfecting wipes or isopropyl alcohol to clean the screen and the body of the phone. If you keep your device in a case, remove the case and wash it with hot, soapy water. It should go without saying but we’ll say it anyway – never submerge your device itself in water as that can cause failure.

Laptops

Laptops tend to collect dust and dirt in the keyboard, which can work its way into the crevices. You can clean out this accumulated gunk with compressed air. Then use isopropyl alcohol to clean and disinfect your keyboard and other surfaces you touch frequently. You can then use an alcohol-based cleaning product to clean the glass screen.

Earphones

If you use earphones or air pods, then you know that they can get dirty quickly. Try using a damp cloth, cotton balls, or cotton swabs dipped in isopropyl alcohol to clean and disinfect them. Your ears will thank you.

Gaming consoles and controllers

If you’re a serious gamer, then think about how much time you spend touching your game controller or console. You might be surprised to discover that these items can get extremely dirty. For all those tiny cracks and crevices, use a toothpick with a little isopropyl alcohol to scrape dirt out. You can also use a cotton swab with isopropyl alcohol to clean the buttons and case. This type of cleaning will also work with remote controls for your TV, stereo, or other devices.

Televisions and computer monitors

Your TV screen and computer monitor are not meant to be touched. This means they aren’t as tough as your other devices that are frequently touched. Clean the screen with a damp cloth and avoid using cleaning sprays or detergents. Those kinds of cleaners can damage the surface or leave annoying streaks behind. You should also dust the sides, back, and top to remove dust. Dust can interfere with the device’s ability to cool itself. When you clean it regularly, you can extend the life of the device.
